Review: Titan Missile Museum

(Our southwest trip started May 1. All of my posts were written as the trip went along but were not posted live until we returned. If you want to read all the posts related to the trip, click on "southwest" in the label section below).

Located about 20 minutes south of Tucson, the Titan Missile Museum was on my list but not my husband's. It didn't take long for him to change his mind.

We got to see an honest-to-goodness Titan missile. Of course at this point all of them have been deactivated and everything about them is non-classified. But for anyone who grew up during the cold war, when these nuclear war deterrents were active, it was a fascinating tour and look back into relatively recent history.

The tour took us into the area where the crew manned the consoles and spent, basically, very boring shifts. Our guide was a retired crew member and he related to us how every shift they had to go through the very same check list. He demonstrated the procedures involved if 'the' message came in. All in all, we found it quite interesting.
